[Timeline](https://help.sitezeus.com/projects?hsLang=en#timeline) # Editing Dependencies on a Realized Timeline ## You can change task dependencies on a realized timeline without changing the timeline template it was built from. This lets you adjust one site's schedule while every other timeline stays the same. Before you save, SiteZeus shows you exactly how the dates will change. ### **Before You Begin** - You need the **Edit Realized Task Dependencies** permission. - You can only edit dependencies on tasks that aren't complete yet. - A task starts the day after the last of its parent tasks finishes. - If you remove every parent task, the task starts on the timeline's start date. - Any tasks that depend on the task you edited are updated to match. - If a task's dates are fixed, changing its dependencies won't move that task or any task waiting on it. The window tells you when this is the case. - If the change doesn't affect any dates, the window says "These dependencies do not move any dates." ### **How to Edit a Task's Dependencies** 1. Open the realized timeline. 2. Find the task you want to change. The **Dependencies** column shows its current parent task, "X Dependencies" if it has more than one (hover to see them all), or "None." 3. Click the task's dependency. The **Edit Dependencies** window opens. 4. Open the **Parent Tasks** list and check or uncheck the tasks that must finish before this task can start. Only earlier tasks on the timeline are listed. 5. Check the **Impact on Dates** section. It lists the task you're editing and every task that depends on it, with the current date crossed out and the new date next to it. 6. Scroll to the bottom of the list to see how many dependent tasks will move. 7.
